Strangeland (Dee Sniders Strangeland)
I guess when reviewing Strangeland its important to remember a few key facts. One: I wasn't even old enough to drive when this movie came out. Two: Its written by Dee Snider, the guy from Twisted Sister and so expectations should be about high as the height requirement at an semi-large ferris wheel. Three: it was put together during a time when teens being lured away by psychopaths in teen chat rooms was just starting to become a major problem. Four: did I mention that Snider didn't just write it, he also stared in it. Sure, there are some scenes that are pretty hard to watch. Mostly just forced piercings and other forms of torture that involve gages and needles of all sorts. I feel like crawling out of my skin just thinking about it. Snider also tries to preach messages to the audience via ranting monologues, very Zombie like in nature, but not even close to being as enlightening as Otis Driftwood, run rabbit run. Snider did however get Robert Englund to act in the film. The main character actually references the nightmare on elm street series a few times through words and actions. Another interesting observation is that the music sounds like it was a complete rip off from Se7ven, strange considering the guy responsible for the entire film is a musician. So, it's worth the 85 minutes if your completely stumped on choosing tonight's entertainment, or if you have enough alcohol to enjoy a very campy-like film. Strangeland is pretty funny to watch when you consider, what did his band mates think when they watched him in this movie? Oh, I should also mention Snider is working on a sequel!! Yep, joy of joy's!! In fact it should be out sometime in 2009. Not gonna lie, I'm a little excited to see whose involved in the picture, which stars have fallen far enough? I wonder.
